What counts as an oversize load
An oversize load is a vehicle or cargo that exceeds the legal size limits for normal highway travel—usually width, height, length, or a combination of those. Many heavy-haul moves also exceed legal weight. Those travel as overweight loads, or as combined oversize and overweight moves.
States require permits for those moves. The permit is the legal authority. The route on the permit is the corridor you are allowed to drive. That is why oversize load navigation is a different job from passenger-car GPS.
Legal size and weight limits differ by state and by road. Always confirm the rules for your load with the issuing agency before you roll. PermitPath helps you follow the route after the permit exists. It does not replace the permit or the issuing office.

Car GPS is the wrong tool for oversize loads
A normal navigation app looks for the fastest or shortest path. Oversize loads care about clearances, bridges, lane width, construction, curfews, and the exact path the permit lists. Taking a “better” turn that is not on the permit can put the load on a road it is not authorized to use.
